Colman Domingo Drops Some Hints About His Character in Steven Spielberg’s UFO Movie

Colman Domingo has shared some new details about the character he’ll be playing in Steven Spielberg’s next movie.

Spielberg is currently working on a new film that is believed to be about, or somehow related to, UFOs. The title of the movie has not yet been revealed, and details have been kept heavily under wraps; however, it is known that the movie will be released next summer by Universal Pictures. With the release date now being a little more than six months away, fans can likely expect to start hearing some more details about the project in the near future.

The cast of the movie includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Domingo, Wyatt Russell, Noah Robbins, and more.

What did Colman Domingo say about his character in Steven Spielberg’s UFO movie?

Speaking with Esquire, it’s been revealed that Spielberg wrote a role in his new movie specifically with Domingo in mind to play the character. The two of them previously worked together on 2012’s Lincoln, which saw Domingo play the character of Private Harold Green.

“I read the script immediately and burst into tears, because I think there is so much humanity in it,” Domingo said. “And that’s ultimately the most I can share: it’s about the possibilities of what we can be when we truly make deeper contact and connections with each other.”

The script for the film comes from Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, based on a story by the Oscar-winning filmmaker. Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger for Amblin Entertainment, along with Chris Brigham. This will be Spielberg’s first movie since 2022’s The Fabelmans, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards, and his first sci-fi movie since 2018’s Ready Player One.

Spielberg’s UFO movie will be released in United States theaters on June 12, 2026.
