Charlie Cox & Zooey Deschanel Star in Merv Trailer for Prime Video Movie

Amazon MGM has released the first trailer for Merv, the upcoming holiday rom-com for dog lovers starring Daredevil: Born Again’s Charlie Cox and Zooey Deschanel. Merv is set to release on December 10, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video.

“Anna (Zooey Deschanel) and Russ (Charlie Cox) are navigating their breakup while co-parenting their dog, Merv (played by an adorable Gus). Yet the ending of their relationship hits their pup the hardest: Merv is diagnosed as depressed, and Russ decides to take him to Florida so they can both get out of their ruts. During this time in Florida, Russ and Anna start spending unprecedented time together again, which leads to a rekindling friendship…and perhaps even love again.”

What happens in the Merv trailer?

The Merv trailer follows a couple, Anna and Russ, who have broken up yet still care for their dog, Merv, together. After Merv begins showing signs of depression following their breakup, the two end up together again on a week-long trip to Florida to try and cheer him up, and begin falling in love all over again.

Alongside Cox and Deschanel, Merv also stars Chris Redd and Patricia Heaton. Cox is best known for his work as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the MCU, while Deschanel is best known for her roles on Fox’s hit sitcom New Girl, as well as films like Almost Famous, Elf, The New Guy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, 500 Days of Summer, and more.

The film is directed by Jessica Swale, from a script written by Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart. Matthew Baer, Roma Downey, Kerri Hundley, and Kai Raka all produce the film, with Colleen Marshall and Jeanette Volturno attached as executive producers.
