Nicolas Cage Movie Sequel Gets Huge Update, Mission: Impossible Star & More Join Cast
A sequel to an underrated Nicolas Cage movie is moving forward.
Cage played Yuri Orlov in 2005’s Lord of War, a crime drama movie directed by Andrew Niccol that also stars Jared Leto as Vitaly Orlov, Ethan Hawke as Jack Valentine, and Ian Holm as Simeon Weisz. The film was a modest hit at the box office for Lionsgate, making approximately $72.6 million globally.
A sequel to Lord of War, titled Lords of War, was announced to be back in the works in 2023 with Cage returning. At the time, it was also announced that Bill Skarsgård would play Yuri’s son, Anton, in the sequel. There have not, however, been many updates on the project since then.
Who has joined the cast of Lords of War with Nicolas Cage?
Per Variety, Lords of War is now finally moving forward, as production is expected to begin in Belgium and Morocco later this month. In addition to Cage, Skarsgård, and BlacKkKlansman’s Laura Harrier, the movie will also star Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049, Twilight of the Gods) and Greg Tarzan Davis (Mission Impossible — The Final Reckoning, Top Gun: Maverick).
“Lords of War sees Cage’s notorious gunrunner Yuri Orlov go head to head against his own son, Anton (Skarsgard),” Deadline’s description of the plot reads. “A chip off the old black, Anton hasn’t simply followed his father into the arms trade, but is going one further by amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East. A bitter rivalry erupts, with the two even at odds over the same women.”
Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi, both of whom produced the original movie, are returning to produce for Vendôme Pictures alongside Cage for Saturn Films. Skarsgård serves as an executive producer.
A release date for Lords of War has not yet been announced. Lord of War, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Peacock.
