EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami reveal their hopes for KPop Demon Hunters sequel
After KPop Demon Hunters became Netflix’s most-watched movie and scored several Grammy nominations, Sony and Netflix will release KPop Demon Hunters 2 in 2029 (via Deadline).
The animated musical follows three pop idols who battle supernatural forces, with singers EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami voicing Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. In an interview with Collider, the trio shared their hopes for the sequel following the first film’s global success.
EJAE expressed interest in showcasing more Korean heritage, saying she wanted to see “more Korean traditional stuff, like traditional history, music, food.” Audrey Nuna added that she hoped to expand the story’s global reach.
“I want to see the girls in different cities. I want to see what they bring globally. Because I think this film has had such a global impact.” She described how the movie’s worldwide success has sparked a “really crazy conversation” between fiction and reality.
Rei Ami said she wanted to explore the characters’ backstory or revisit major figures from the first film. “I would love to see the origin story of how the girls got together. If it’s not a prequel, then I want Gwi-ma (Lee Byung-hun) back. Bring him back.” She also noted her curiosity about the sequel’s villain, asking, “Who’s going to be the antagonist? I’m so curious for this next one.”
Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters broke streaming records with over 325 million views, a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score, and three Grammy nominations. The sequel continues the story of HUNTR/X’s pop-warrior trio as their world expands beyond Seoul.
