Ryan Reynolds Rebooting Classic Clint Eastwood Movie
Ryan Reynolds has plans to reboot a classic Clint Eastwood movie.
Reynolds is best known for playing Marvel’s Deadpool/Wade Wilson, with the character having last been seen in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Whether or not he’ll appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie remains unclear at this time, as there have been conflicting reports on the matter.
What Clint Eastwood movie is Ryan Reynolds rebooting?
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds is now working with Amazon MGM Studios to reboot a 1974 movie starring Eastwood and Jeff Bridges: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.
Reynolds is “eyeing” to star in the new film and will serve as a producer for his Maximum Effort production banner. He’s also working on the script with writers Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson. Deadpool & Wolverine editor Shane Reid will make his directorial debut with the new Thunderbolt and Lightfoot movie.
A description of the 1974 film reads, “While stealing a car, free-spirited drifter Lightfoot (Jeff Bridges) crosses paths with legendary thief Thunderbolt (Clint Eastwood) in the midst of his own escape. Thunderbolt’s old partners in crime, Red (George Kennedy) and Eddie (Geoffrey Lewis), believe he double-crossed them after they robbed a Montana bank vault several years ago. After Thunderbolt successfully pleads his innocence and is let off the hook, Lightfoot rallies them together as a group to rob the very same bank again.”
Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. The film marked the directorial debut of Michael Cimino, who then made The Deer Hunter starring Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken just a few years later. After that, Cimino went on to direct 1980’s Heaven’s Gate, 1985’s Year of the Dragon, 1987’s The Sicilian, 1990’s Desperate Hours, and 1996’s The Sunchaser, among other titles.
No other casting for Reynolds and Amazon MGM Studios’ Thunderbolt and Lightfoot movie has been announced. The film does not yet have a release date.
