Mortal Kombat Star Wants to Play Nightwing or Red Hood in DCU

A Mortal Kombat star has expressed interest in playing either Nightwing/Dick Grayson or Red Hood/Jason Todd in the DCU.

Mortal Kombat II arrives in United States theaters on May 8, 2026, from Warner Bros. Pictures. Directed by Simon McQuoid, the sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat is based on the popular video game series of the same name and will see Karl Urban play Johnny Cage.

Lewis Tan stars in the Mortal Kombat movies as Cole Young. Speaking with ComicBook, Tan opened up about some recent fancasts calling for him to play Nightwing in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU.

What did Lewis Tan say about wanting to play Nightwing or Red Hood?

“I saw some of the [Nightwing] fancast. I’m very appreciative of it,” he said. “I love that character. That would be one of the characters I would want to play. Nightwing is an incredible character, that I could bring something unique to. I also like Red Hood. I think I could make a darker, more violent version of that one day. I love those characters.”

There’s been no official announcement as of yet when, or if, Nightwing or Red Hood will appear in the DCU. Given that they’re both Batman characters, the most sensible bet would be that they could appear in Andy Muschietti’s The Brave and the Bold, especially since it’s known that the movie will feature Damian Wayne as Robin. In DC Comics lore, Damian is the fifth main Robin after Dick, Jason, Tim Drake, and Stephanie Brown. If Damian is the Dark Knight’s sidekick, that would mean Dick and Jason have been around in the DCU for some time and have likely adopted their respective Nightwing and Red Hood mantles. Blüdhaven, the city that Nightwing typically operates out of, is also named-dropped in Peacemaker Season 2.

That is all just speculation, though, as it’s only known that The Brave and the Bold will feature Batman and Damian at this time. The DC Studios movie does not currently have a release date.
