Michael Teaser Trailer Shows Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop
Lionsgate has released the first teaser trailer for Michael, an upcoming biopic about the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
“Michael is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known,” Lionsgate’s synopsis reads. “The film tells the story of Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world.”

What happens in the Michael teaser trailer?
Jaafar Jackson stars as Michael Jackson, the pop superstar who became one of the most culturally important figures of the 21st century. Jaafar is Michael’s nephew.
The teaser shows Jackson working on the track list for some of his iconic albums, including songs like Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, Human Nature, P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing), Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough, and Thriller.
The footage also highlights Jackson’s life and several legendary performances from his early solo career, which feature the King of Pop’s signature dance moves.
Michael’s tagline reads, “Discover the making of a king.”
Michael’s cast includes Nia Long as mother Katherine Jackson, Laura Harrier as music executive Suzanne de Passe, Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael, Miles Teller as entertainment lawyer John Branca, and Colman Domingo as father Joe Jackson.
Antoine Fuqua directs Michael from a screenplay by John Logan. Bohemian Rhapsody’s Graham King is a producer on Michael alongside Branca and John McClain.
Filming on Michael began in January 2024 and ended four months later. Michael’s initial release date was April 18, 2025, before Lionsgate pushed it to October 3, 2025. Reshoots moved the release date back even further. The studio considered splitting the movie into two parts before ultimately deciding on one for now.
Michael opens in theaters on April 24, 2026.
