Acclaimed Horror Movie Obsession Sets Release Date & It’s Pretty Soon

Focus Features has finally announced the theatrical release date for Obsession, its newest horror movie from up-and-coming filmmaker Curry Barker (Milk & Serial). This comes over two months after the film had its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Midnight Madness section, where it was a runner-up for the People’s Choice Award.

“After breaking the mysterious ‘One Wish Willow’ to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price,” reads the official synopsis.

When is the release date for Obsession?

Obsession is scheduled to arrive in U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026. Since its buzzy debut at TIFF, the movie has continued to garner positive reviews from critics. It currently holds a Tomatometer rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 33 reviews.

The movie is written and directed by Barker. The ensemble cast includes Michael Johnston (Slash) as Bear, Inde Navarrette (Superman & Lois) as Nikki, Cooper Tomlinson (Treasure Trackers) as Ian, Megan Lawless (The Hate U Give) as Sarah, and Andy Richter (Elf) as Carter. It is produced by James Harris for Teashop Productions, Haley Nicole Johnson for Under the Shell, and Christian Mercuri for Capstone Pictures.

Focus Features acquired the rights to the movie’s North American theatrical distribution through a $14 million deal. After its TIFF premiere, the movie also had sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest. It was also screened at Sitges Film Festival, where it won the People’s Choice Award. Universal Pictures International will be handling its international distribution.
