Charlize Theron Finds Next Movie After The Old Guard 2’s Poor Reception

Academy Award winner Charlize Theron has officially found her next leading role in the form of a culinary thriller, titled Tyrant. This marks Theron’s first movie project following the release of Netflix’s The Old Guard 2, which received negative reviews from critics with a Tomatometer rating of 27% on Rotten Tomatoes.

What do we know about Charlize Theron’s Tyrant movie?

According to Deadline, Theron has entered the final negotiations to star in Amazon MGM Studios’ Tyrant movie, which reportedly has the same tone as 1987’s Wall Street and 2014’s Whiplash. The story is expected to be set in New York City’s high-end culinary world. Further details about the plot and characters are still under wraps. However, the outlet also claimed that the project will feature another lead female character, who’ll star opposite Theron.

The movie will be directed by David Weil, who also wrote the screenplay based on Weil and Cody Behan’s story. In addition to starring, Theron has also signed on as producer alongside Beth Kono and A.J. Dix through their Secret Menu production banner. Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona of The Picture Company and Natalie Laine Williams are also set to produce the project.

Before Tyrant, Theron was already attached to star in several movie projects. These include: Netflix’s action thriller movie Apex, which will also be led by Taron Egerton and Eric Bana; the psychological thriller Jane from acclaimed filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón; and the heist movie Two for the Money from F9 director Justin Lin. In addition, she’s also part of Christopher Nolan’s star-studded cast for The Odyssey, which will debut in 2026.
