Avatar: Fire and Ash Rating Will Not Surprise Anyone
The third entry in the multi-billion-dollar Avatar franchise, titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, may be a month away from its theatrical release, but its rating has already made its way onto the internet. A recent listing has provided insight into what Avatar 3’s MPAA rating would be, which turns out to be an unsurprising revelation.
Avatar: Fire and Ash official rating revealed
As per Next Best Picture author Will Mavity, Avatar: Fire and Ash is all set to have a PG-13 rating when it rolls into theaters in December.
The MPAA listing, as shared by Mavity on X (formerly Twitter), not only confirmed the expected PG-13 rating for Avatar 3 but also mentioned the reasoning behind this decision.
The update mentioned that James Cameron’s upcoming adventure in Pandora has received such a grade due to its “intense sequences of violence and action, bloody images, some strong language, thematic elements, and suggestive material.”
Notably, the rating of Avatar: Fire and Ash sits in line with the MPAA classification of its predecessors, both of which also received a PG-13 rating before their premiere. However, the highlighted “bloody images and thematic elements” seemingly indicate a bigger quotient of action in the upcoming Avatar 3.
Building upon the narrative of Avatar: The Way of Water, Fire and Ash will take place one year after Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldaña) family decides to settle in with the Metkayina Clan. Jake soon comes into conflict with a new Na’vi tribe, known as the Ash people, as well as their hot-headed leader, Varang. However, things soon go from bad to worse when Varang decides to ally with Jake’s age-old nemesis, Quaritch, in the battle for Pandora.
Directed by James Cameron, Avatar 3 features a star-studded lineup aside from Worthington and Saldaña. The additional cast for Fire and Ash includes Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, David Thewlis, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, and more. The threequel is currently scheduled to hit the big screen on December 19, 2025.
