Steven Spielberg Lures Legend Out of Retirement for New UFO Movie
Steven Spielberg is reuniting with one of his longtime collaborators for his new UFO movie.
Spielberg is currently working on a new science fiction film for Universal Pictures. Written by David Koepp, it stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, and more. The movie currently has a June 2026 release date.
Who is coming out of retirement to work on Steven Spielberg’s new UFO movie?
It has now been announced that John Williams will be scoring Spielberg’s next movie. The announcement was made by Damian Woetzel, who is the president of Juilliard, at an event at the school that took place on Monday, October 27.
“The catalyst is John Williams, who is in Los Angeles doing what he does: he is working with Steven Spielberg on the next movie,” Woetzel said, via Doug Adams on Twitter. “And that is something to be happy about.”
Williams is widely considered to have created some of the best-known scores in film history. This list of movies he’s worked on includes 1975’s Jaws, 1977’s Star Wars, 1978’s Superman, 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1982’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, 1990’s Home Alone, 1993’s Jurassic Park, 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and many, many more.
In 2022, Williams said that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would likely be the last film he works on. He reversed course sometime later and said that he didn’t want to rule any potential opportunities out if something came up that he was greatly interested in; however, he still hasn’t worked on a movie project since Indiana Jones 5 up until now.
Plot details for Spielberg’s new movie remain heavily under wraps at this time. In addition to the aforementioned cast, the film also stars Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo, Wyatt Russell, and Noah Robbins.
Steven Spielberg’s UFO movie hits theaters on June 12, 2026.
