Rachel Zegler Talks Controversial Snow White Remake & Online Drama

Just as the cold never bothered Frozen’s Elsa, Snow White star Rachel Zegler has not let the online discourse surrounding the 2025 Disney remake get to her.

What was Rachel Zegler’s response to the Snow White drama?

Snow White was the subject of much criticism well before critics handed it a 38% approval rating, according to review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Zegler’s casting as the title princess, as well as its changes to the story (including the initial removal of the Seven Dwarfs), generated a lot of controversy online, which only worsened after Zegler publicly critiqued Disney’s animated Snow White.

Ultimately, Snow White failed to attract an audience, grossing just $206 million worldwide, which was not enough to cover its reported $270 million budget. Despite the boycotts, criticism, and box office failure of the Disney remake, Zegler has not let the online discourse get to her, telling Glamour during a recent interview, “Honestly, I’m a duck. It rolls right off my back these days.”

The actor revealed that she hasn’t taken the criticism she received for voicing her opinions on the original Snow White, as well as her thoughts on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, to heart, explaining that she still thinks it’s important for actors to speak freely. “We just need to normalise our hearts’ not having boundaries. I think that there’s this idea that we as public figures can’t have thoughts or feelings because we are like paper dolls to a majority of the public,” she stated.

While Snow White will go down in history as one of the worst Disney live-action remakes, Zegler is proud to have the movie among her list of credits. “I made lifelong friends on that job. That kind of family doesn’t get dissipated by online discourse,” she said of her experience on the box office bomb.

Snow White can be streamed on Disney+, alongside the original animated film and the studio’s other live-action remakes.
