Toy Story 5: Tim Allen Reveals Plot, Agrees With Quentin Tarantino’s Hot Take

Golden Globe winner Tim Allen has shared a new update regarding the Toy Story 5 plot for Disney and Pixar‘s next entry to the award-winning animated franchise. Allen will once again reprise his iconic role as space ranger Buzz Lightyear, whom he has been playing since 1995. Besides Allen, Marvel vet Chris Evans also voiced the character in Pixar’s 2022 movie Lightyear.

What did Tim Allen say about the Toy Story 5 plot?

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Allen confirmed that Joan Cusack’s Jessie will now be leading Toy Story 5. He revealed that the new movie will see Jessie gathering Woody, Buzz, and her other friends to help with her problem.

“This thing (Toy Story 5), they reboot everything,” Allen said. “It’s all about Jesse, which is really cool. She’s in trouble, and she needs help. We’re all over, so she has to gather everybody.”

Allen also shared one of the Toy Story 5 scenes he’s most excited about, which is a funny scene involving a hundred Buzz Lightyear dolls stranded on an island. He also described the scene as sort of a parody of Tom Hanks’ Castaway movie. He hopes that the creative team will include it in the final cut, because he has a lot of ad-libs for the scene.”

“The funniest thing to me is that there’s a plane crash like that Hanks movie (Castaway),” He continued. “On the island where a FedEx plane or something with a 100 Buzz dolls lands, and they’re all lost. It’s hysterical. They’re trying to find their way back, and there’s a hundred of them. I hope they have it in there. I ad-lib.”

In addition, Allen also reacted to Quentin Tarantino‘s previous statement about Toy Story 3 being one of the best movies he has ever seen. “I’m with Tarantino. I think number 3 was one of the best movies ever made,” he admitted. “Four, it stretched a lot of things.”

Toy Story 5 is being directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) from a screenplay he also wrote. The next installment will once again feature the voices of franchise leads Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. Their characters were last seen together in 2019’s Toy Story 4, where Woody decided to stay with Bo Peep instead of returning home to Bonnie. The new movie will also feature the voices of Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, Tony Hale as Forky, Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, and Anna Faris as Lilypad.

Toy Story 5 is currently slated to arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026.
