Star Wars: Adam Driver’s Status Gets Update Following Kylo Ren Movie Talk
After Star Wars vet Adam Driver shared details about his canceled solo Kylo Ren movie, speculation about his potential return to the Star Wars universe began circulating online. Some fans are curious as to why the acclaimed actor has only decided now to reveal his previous plans of reprising the fan-favorite character in a project, which would have taken place after 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.
What is the latest on Adam Driver’s Star Wars status?
According to The InSneider, despite Driver’s recent revelation, Lucasfilm reportedly has “no plans for him to return” to the Star Wars franchise. The outlet claimed that this wouldn’t be possible when Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is already expected to step down from her position sometime next year.
According to Driver, he was developing a solo Kylo Ren movie with acclaimed filmmaker Steven Soderbergh. Despite the character’s popularity, Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman surprisingly turned down the project, which would have been titled The Hunt for Ben Solo. Even though Lucasfilm loved their idea, Iger and Bergman just couldn’t understand why his character would still be alive when he had already sacrificed his life at the end of The Rise of Skywalker movie.
Driver was last seen in Star Wars at the end of 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, which was directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams. The ensemble cast also featured Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Naomi Ackie, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Jodie Comer, and more. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the movie still earned a worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office.
