Johnny Depp Makes Hollywood Comeback in X Director’s New Movie

Johnny Depp is reportedly ready to make his Hollywood comeback, and in an unlikely way. The actor is rumored to be starring in the next movie from the director of X and MaXXXine, Ti West.

What movie is Johnny Depp rumored to be starring in?

According to a new report from Nexus Point News that was later confirmed by Deadline, Depp will star in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a retelling of the classic Charles Dickens story A Christmas Carol. Alongside Depp, Deadline also reported that Andrea Riseborough has signed on to star in the film as well.

Currently, the film is set to release on November 13, 2026, with West directing the movie from a script written by Nathaniel Halpern.

A Christmas Carol is no stranger to adaptations. The original 1843 Charles Dickens novella is one of the most iconic stories ever written, and is one of the most adapted stories ever, as well. Some of the more famous or well-known adaptations of the story include the 2009 film starring Jim Carrey, 1992’s The Muppet Christmas Carol, and FX’s miniseries that released in 2019.

While it’s unclear exactly how this version will differ from past versions of A Christmas Carol, it will mark one of Depp’s biggest roles in years.

While Depp has been working since his defamation lawsuit victory in 2022, his roles have been mostly sporadic. He starred in 2023’s Jeanne du Barry as Louis XV, as well as the 2024 biopic Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness, which he directed and starred in. Depp is also set to star opposite Penélope Cruz in the upcoming Day Drinker.

Ti West has been directing films since the early 2000s, but broke out in 2022 with his horror film X. The movie spawned off a trilogy of films, including 2022’s Pearl and 2024’s MaXXXine, all starring Mia Goth.
