Rabid Chimpanzee Attacks Family in Terrifying Primate Trailer

Paramount Pictures has released the first Primate trailer, previewing the upcoming horror movie about a group of friends trying to stave off a rabid chimpanzee. Primate is set to release on January 9, 2026.

“Home from college, Lucy reunites with family, including pet chimp Ben. Ben contracts rabies during a pool party and turns aggressive. Lucy and friends barricade in pool, devising ways to survive the vicious chimp,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

Who is in the Primate trailer?

Primate stars Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, Troy Kotsur, Victoria Wyant, Gia Hunter, Benjamin Cheng, Charlie Mann, and Tienne Simon. The trailer itself highlights Lucy (Sequoyah) coming home for a school break, and the chaos that ensues when their pet chimpanzee goes rabid.

The film is directed by Johannes Roberts, from a script written by Roberts and Ernest Riera. Walter Hamada, John Hodges, and Bradley Pilz are all attached to the project as producers.

Primate had its premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest and is set to release at the start of 2026. Other than Primate, Johannes Roberts is known for directing other horror films like 47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night, and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.
