Andrew Garfield addressed one of Marvel’s most persistent casting rumors during a new interview ahead of Avengers: Doomsday. Andrew Garfield says he won’t return in Avengers: Doomsday
During a new GQ video interview, Andrew Garfield directly addressed fan speculation about his potential appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. When asked if he and Tobey Maguire would return as Spider-Men in the upcoming Marvel film, Garfield replied, “No, unequivocally f—– no.” The actor made it clear he has no involvement in the next Avengers installment, which features a multiverse storyline and the return of several major Marvel stars, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.
Garfield previously denied his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home before ultimately appearing alongside Maguire and Tom Holland. That 2021 film grossed $1.9 billion worldwide, reigniting fan enthusiasm for both earlier Spider-Man portrayals. Garfield first played Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel, both produced by Sony Pictures. He told Esquire last year that his sudden exit from the franchise left him “dangling.” He described returning in No Way Home as “the most joyful thing ever.”
Garfield reaffirmed that he won’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday but said in past interviews he would “100% come back” as Spider-Man if the idea was “additive to the culture” and “unique and exciting.” Fans remain skeptical because of his past denials. Earlier this year, he said about Spider-Man: Brand New Day, “I’m gonna disappoint you. Yeah, no. But I know no one’s gonna trust anything I say from now on.”
Avengers: Doomsday, directed by the Russo brothers, releases on December 18, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars follows on December 17, 2027, marking their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame.
