Star Wars Actor Wants To Return Over 2 Decades After Last Movie
An actress known for her role in the Insidious films has shared her interest in returning to the Star Wars franchise over two decades after Attack of the Clones. She reflected on her brief role as Dormé and said she would “love” to rejoin the galaxy far, far away if given the chance.
Rose Byrne wants to be in another Star Wars movie after Attack of the Clones
Rose Byrne recently discussed her willingness to return to the Star Wars universe more than two decades after appearing in Attack of the Clones. During an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Byrne said, “I mean, to be even a microscopic piece of the [Star Wars] universe is so sweet… you’re still part of this dialogue, this chain of characters in this film, this universe that resonates with people.” The actress, who portrayed Dormé, handmaiden to Natalie Portman’s Padmé Amidala, added, “I’m ready! No one’s called. Maybe after this, they will.”
Byrne’s character appeared briefly in the 2002 prequel, with only “about one or two lines,” as she described. Dormé appeared in two short scenes before Padmé and Anakin Skywalker left for Naboo following failed assassination attempts. In one of her key moments, Padmé tells a ship captain to “take good care of Dormé,” and Byrne’s character replies, “He’ll be safe with me,” before breaking into tears. Reflecting on that scene, Byrne said, “The first one I feel is more resonant… I’m establishing there’s a situation, and it’s fraught, and my feelings about it, and her feelings about it.”
The Star Wars franchise has continued to expand since Byrne’s appearance. The Rise of Skywalker premiered in 2019 as the most recent mainline film. In November 2024, Lucasfilm announced Simon Kinberg as the director of a new trilogy set outside the Skywalker Saga. Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling are also developing Starfighter, slated for release on May 28, 2027.
It remains unknown whether any prequel-era characters, including Dormé or Padmé, will return in future installments. Byrne said she “grew to love” her small part in the franchise and would gladly reprise it if asked.
