Superman’s James Gunn Has ‘Major Plans’ for Fan-Favorite DC Movie Hero
Superman fans who enjoyed Edi Gathegi’s take on Mister Terrific in the David Corenswet-led DCU film have much to look forward to as James Gunn recently revealed that he has big plans for the character. In a recent interview, the Guardians of the Galaxy director reflected on the successful debut of the African-American superhero before confirming that he has a bright future in the DCU.
James Gunn says he has ‘major plans’ for Mr. Terrific after Superman
While talking to Phase Hero: A Film & TV Podcast host Brandon Davis, Gunn noted that Gathegi’s Mister Terrific will be playing a significant role in the DCU following his appearance in Superman.
“I’ve got major plans for Mister Terrific,” the acclaimed filmmaker remarked. He then acknowledged the enthusiastic response the character received from fans, stating that it did impact Mister Terrific’s place in the DCU.
“Yeah, definitely it influences things. I don’t know, you’re going around the planet, you’re drilling for oil, and every once in a while you get a geyser—and you know Mr. Terrific is a geyser. He’s very popular,” Gunn said before adding, “When I see that sort of stuff, it makes a difference to me.”
However, the DC Studios co-CEO always seemed to have had plans for the now fan-favorite character, as evidenced by his subsequent comment in the interview. Talking about the positive reaction to Mister Terrific’s appearance in Superman, Gunn noted that it did not make “all the difference in the world,” suggesting that he had already worked out an arc for the character.
Following his debut in Superman, Mister Terrific made a brief cameo in Peacemaker Season 2, appearing as a silhouette in a flashback sequence that retconned the Justice League’s scene in Season 1 by replacing them with the Justice Gang. At the time of writing, it remains unclear as to which DCU project will feature Gathegi’s Michael Holt next.
