John C. Reilly’s Dewey Cox Is Making a Comeback
Dewey Cox and The Hard Walkers are getting ready to get back on the road, with John C. Reilly getting ready to step back into the role of Cox after 20 years.
How is Dewey Cox making a comeback?
Reilly made the surprise announcement during a recent appearance on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast (via Live for Live Music). The star said that he and musician Jack White want to rerelease the film’s soundtrack on vinyl in 2027, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film.
Reilly also said that he plans on getting the band back together and going on a tour, where he hopes to play “as many dates and as big of places as we can do.”
It’s unclear whether or not any other members of the film’s fictional band, which also included comedians Tim Meadows, Chris Parnell, and Matt Besser. In 2007, to promote the film, Reilly actually went on tour as Cox, and performed with guitarist Mike Viola, who wrote several of the songs from the original film. Reilly was also joined by some of the film’s other stars during certain stops.
Originally released in 2007, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story introduced the character of Cox, as played by Reilly. The film was a musical comedy parodying the biopic genre, and referenced other musical biopics like Ray and Walk the Line.
The movie featured a star-studded cast, including Kristen Wiig, Raymond J. Barry, Margo Martindale, Jenna Fischer, Angela Correa, Tim Meadows, Chris Panell, Matt Besser, Chip Hormess, Jonah Hill, David “Honeyboy” Edwards, David Krumholtz, Craig Robinson, and more. Although the film was a box office disappointment, it has since gone on to become a cult classic.
