Highlander Remake With Henry Cavill Casts DCEU Star as a Villain
Jeremy Irons has joined the cast of Highlander.
Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists and Chad Stahelski are currently working on a remake of Highlander. The new movie was supposed to begin filming this fall; however, production was pushed to 2026 after Henry Cavill, who is playing Connor MacLeod in the film, was injured during pre-production.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Irons has now been cast as a villain in the movie. He’ll play the “leader of a secret order called The Watchers, who are keeping an eye on the immortals and see them as a threat to humanity.”
Irons and Cavill both starred in the DCEU, with the former portraying Alfred Pennyworth and the latter playing Clark Kent/Superman. Irons won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in 1990’s Reversal of Fortune, while his filmography also includes 1994’s The Lion King, 1995’s Die Hard with a Vengeance, 1998’s The Man in the Iron Mask, 2000’s Dungeons & Dragons, 2016’s Assassin’s Creed, 2021’s House of Gucci, 2024’s The Beekeeper, and more.
What else do we know about the Highlander reboot?
The cast of Highlander also includes Russell Crowe as Ramirez and Dave Bautista as The Kurgen. Karen Gillan will play MacLeod’s wife, while Marisa Abela has been cast as his modern romantic interest. Djimon Hounsou has been tapped to play a warrior from Africa, while Max Zhang and Drew McIntyre also star.
The script comes from Michael Finch. Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt are producing for United Artists alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner.
A release date for the new Highlander remake has not yet been announced. The original 1986 movie directed by Russell Mulcahy and starring Christopher Lambert, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Prime Video, Peacock, and more.
