Leonardo DiCaprio‘s One Battle After Another character Bob Ferguson has an already classic look, one that was inspired by several things, including one surprising character from Star Wars.
What Star Wars inspiration did Leonardo DiCaprio take for One Battle After Another?
Speaking to USA Today, DiCaprio broke down his character’s look in the film. In the movie, DiCaprio’s Ferguson mostly wears a disheveled look, complete with a sleeping robe, giant sunglasses, and a beanie. According to DiCaprio, a surprise Star Wars character was the inspiration behind one part of his outfit.
“There’s the weird ‘Star Wars’ theme to this movie,” DiCaprio said. “I had this vision of these wraparound optical glasses like Boba Fett. Those are the ones I had to choose.”
DiCaprio also cited influences like Jeff Bridges’ look as “The Dude” in the 1998 crime comedy film The Big Lebowski for part of his look. When it comes to Star Wars though, DiCaprio believes his latest movie shares several comparisons with the iconic franchise. Speaking to The Ringer, DiCaprio compared his characters’ search for his daughter (played by Chase Infiniti) as similar to that of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo searching for Princess Leia.
One Battle After Another is out in theaters now, and has already garnered massive praise. The film is currently holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been praised by many as a masterpiece.
Alongside DiCaprio, the movie also stars Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, Benicio Del Toro, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim. It is written and directed by Anderson, who also serves as a producer alongside Adam Somner and Sara Murphy. Will Weiske serves as an executive producer.
