What happens in the Death Stranding Mosquito teaser trailer?

The video introduces an unknown muscular man wearing a strange, tentacle-like black mask. He is first seen swimming underwater, seemingly trying to reach toward another unidentified person. The scene then cuts to the same man in an intense fight against a person wearing a porter suit in the rain. The trailer provides fans with a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming anime movie.

Now titled Death Stranding Mosquito, the movie’s animation will be handled by ABC Animation Studio. The story is expected to be set in the original game’s post-apocalyptic world. The project is being directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto from a screenplay written by Aaron Guzikowski. At the moment, it has no release date or voice cast attached.

Besides the anime movie, Kojima Productions is also working on a live-action Death Stranding movie with A24. The adaptation will be directed by A Quiet Place: Day One filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, with Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen serving as producers. It is expected to debut sometime in 2027.

Released in 2019, the original game is described as a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the United States, where a courier must deliver supplies across the nation to save humanity and prevent mass extinction. It featured performances from Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Margaret Qualley, Troy Baker, and Guillermo del Toro.
