Clown in a Cornfield 4K SteelBook Review: Horror Movie Gets Timely UHD Release

While the movie title is quite on the nose, Clown in a Cornfield wound up being a pleasant surprise for horror fans earlier this year. The slasher is filled with fun twists, some memorable deaths, and solid performances from its cast. Now, the Clown in a Cornfield 4K is out just in time for spooky season to kick off.

“Quinn and her father have just moved to the quiet town of Kettle Springs hoping for a fresh start. Instead, she discovers a fractured community that has fallen on hard times after the treasured Baypen Corn Syrup Factory burned down. As the locals bicker amongst themselves and tensions boil over, a sinister, grinning figure emerges from the cornfields to cleanse the town of its burdens, one bloody victim at a time. Welcome to Kettle Springs. The real fun starts when Frendo the clown comes out to play,” says the official description.

What made Clown in a Cornfield such an enjoyable watch the first time was how unexpected some of the twists were. While I wasn’t sure how it’d hold up on a rewatch, thankfully, it winds up being just as fun to see how everything was laid out and how many hints are hiding in plain sight. The movie still works well upon a second viewing, and particularly memorable performances by Kevin Durand and Will Sasso are just as entertaining this time around.

Horror films are a particular favorite of mine on 4K due to how well they can be enhanced with the extra detail, which often does wonders for darker movies. While the Clown in a Cornfield 4K looks better than it does on streaming, it sadly doesn’t feature HDR support. With a few compression issues, this is still a good-looking movie, but not the slam dunk on 4K that it could’ve been.

Where the Clown in a Cornfield 4K does excel is in its packaging. The SteelBook release features a lovely embossed logo and a wicked design featuring Frendo front and center. There are also two sets of collectible magnets that come with the 4K edition, which help it feel like a premium release. The slasher also comes with a worthwhile commentary track featuring director Eli Craig, the book’s author, and its two leads (Carson MacCormac and Katie Douglas), which is insightful and an enjoyable listen.

Clown in a Cornfield 4K SteelBook Review: Final Verdict

Featuring some nice bonuses on the disc and inside the SteelBook case, the Clown in a Cornfield 4K is an easy recommendation for fans of the slasher movie. It’s been one of 2025’s nicest horror surprises and is still a blast to rewatch. It’s certainly a movie you’ll want to revisit during spooky season, and hopefully, we’ll get a sequel down the line.
