2025’s Horror Movies Have a New Ruler as Sinners Gets Defeated
More than two weeks after its theatrical release, The Conjuring: Last Rites continues to break box office records, most recently surpassing Sinners to become the highest-grossing horror film of 2025. Additionally, with its latest weekend push, Last Rites has also become the most successful entry in the Conjuring franchise, wrapping up the story of renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren with a bang.
The Conjuring: Last Rites beats Sinners, reaches almost $400 million
With a $12.9 million haul on the domestic front during its third weekend in theaters, Last Rites has officially dethroned Sinners as the top-grossing horror movie of the year. At the time of writing, the worldwide box office earnings of The Conjuring: Last Rites stand at $399.9 million, which comfortably beats Sinners’ lifetime collection of $366.6 million, as per Box Office Mojo.
While Sinners may have garnered a better critical reception, as evidenced by its 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, the Michael B. Jordan-led film’s overseas earnings pale in comparison to those of Last Rites. The tenth entry in the Conjuring franchise has bagged a whopping $248.8 million from the international market, with Sinners only managing $88.1 million from overseas ticket sales. However, Sinners is still ahead on the domestic front, having earned $278.5 million, while Last Rites has so far earned only $151.1 million.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is the biggest Conjuring Universe movie
In addition to usurping Sinners’ title for highest-grossing horror film of the year, Last Rites has also managed to surpass the box office earnings of each of its nine predecessors in the Conjuring franchise. With Last Rites almost closing in on the $400 million mark, the film has successfully beaten The Nun’s global collection of $366 million. As such, with its third weekend haul, Last Rites has become the highest-grossing movie in the Conjuring franchise.
