The Batman 2’s Matt Reeves Comments on Robin’s Debut
Matt Reeves spoke about the possibility of Robin appearing in The Batman: Part 2. In a recent conversation, he explained that his team considered many characters while developing the sequel. The discussion comes as preparations continue for filming, which is scheduled to start in late April with Robert Pattinson returning.
Matt Reeves doesn’t confirm or deny Robin’s inclusion for The Batman 2
Matt Reeves confirmed that The Batman: Part 2 remains a DC Elseworlds project and not part of James Gunn’s DCU in a conversation with Josh Horowitz. While discussing the sequel’s development, Reeves revealed that he and co-writer Mattson Tomlin explored multiple characters from Batman’s history when shaping the story.
On Robin’s possible introduction, Reeves stated, “Well, sure, you talk about everything. There is probably not any character that we didn’t talk about. What could this be? What could that be? That’s part of the beginning of anything.”
Reeves emphasized that the main focus of Part 2 is deepening Bruce Wayne’s character. He explained that the new villain will connect directly to Wayne’s past, saying, “Picking the right villain that digs into what that does, that sort of goes into his past and his life. That was what drove that discussion. I won’t tell you where we ended up, but we’re super excited about it, and I will say it’s never really been done in a movie before.”
The director also addressed James Gunn’s recent comment about wanting Reeves to direct a DCU film. Reeves clarified, “We haven’t talked about anything like that, we have had conversations about how things would work in general. Of course it would be a lot of fun. I want to play out the stories we began and arrive at the conclusion that I hoped we’d arrived at the beginning.”
Filming for The Batman: Part 2 will begin in late April or early May, with Robert Pattinson reprising his role. Reeves shared the script with Pattinson and confirmed that pre-production is underway. He emphasized that although spin-offs like The Penguin series remain in discussion, he prioritizes completing the sequel before expanding into additional Gotham-set projects.
