DCU Batman Rumor Gets a Hilarious Response from James Gunn

James Gunn had a hilarious response to a fan asking about a potential casting chance for the DC Universe’s Batman.

What did James Gunn say about the latest DCU Batman rumor?

In a recent post on Threads about Gunn’s appearance on The Howard Stern Show, a fan shared an image of what looks to be an AI-generated image of Brandon Sklenar dressed as Batman.

The fan asked whether or not this could be the DCU‘s Batman, and Gunn had a hilarious reaction to it. Instead of confirming or denying the question, Gunn simply chose to mock the nature of the photo itself.

“It would be weird to cast an AI Batman with a 14 inch arm,” Gunn joked, mocking the photo which seemed to show a disproportional look at the fake Sklenar’s arms.

Despite the joke, Sklenar’s name has been floated by many fans as a possible one for Batman. The actor hasn’t commented much on the rumors, nor do we know much about what to even expect from the DCU’s Batman, which is currently set to debut in the upcoming film The Brave and The Bold.

Recently, Gunn has spoken about the differences between Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman Part II and The Brave and the Bold, which is being directed by Andy Muschietti, noting that the DCU Batman film “probably” won’t be released during the same calendar year.

Clayface is currently scheduled to be released in 2026, and there’s a possibility that movie could feature the DCU Batman’s introduction, given that Clayface is a Dark Knight villain. However, production on that project is expected to begin relatively soon, meaning casting would need to be done quickly.

The Batman 2 arrives on October 1, 2027, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
