Man of Tomorrow Gets Big Update from James Gunn, Plot Detail Confirmed
James Gunn has provided DCU fans with a huge Man of Tomorrow update.
Gunn’s Superman movie was released in United States theaters this past July. The first feature film set within Gunn and Safran’s DCU, the superhero epic stars David Corenswet as the titular character, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
It was recently announced that a follow-up to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, is officially in the works and will be released in 2027. Corenswet and Hoult will both reprise their respective roles.
What did James Gunn say about Man of Tomorrow?
Appearing on the Howard Stern Show, via Superman Saga News on Twitter, Gunn confirmed that a popular theory going around stating that Man of Tomorrow will see Superman and Lex Luthor reluctantly work with one another is indeed true.
“It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,” he said.
What that threat is remains a mystery at this time, though many have speculated that Brainiac could be the main antagonist of Man of Tomorrow. Gunn has previously stated that Peacemaker Season 2 serves as a “prequel” to Man of Tomorrow, meaning more hints regarding what to expect from the new Superman movie will likely show up in forthcoming episodes of the John Cena-led show.
Additionally, via ScreenTime on Twitter, Gunn said that Man of Tomorrow will likely begin production around April 2026.
Further details about Man of Tomorrow remain under wraps at this time. The DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures movie currently has a July 9, 2027, release date. Superman, meanwhile, is currently available to purchase or rent on various digital streaming outlets, while new episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 will continue to drop on Thursdays until the finale arrives on October 9, 2025.
