
Hamnet Teaser Trailer: Oscar Winner’s Shakespeare Movie Stars Paul Mescal
Focus Features has shared the first teaser trailer for Hamnet, the upcoming historical drama based on Maggie O’Farrell’s 2020 novel of the same name. The movie is currently slated to arrive in select theaters on November 27. Afterward, it will then expand nationwide on December 12.
“From Academy Award winning writer/director Chloé Zhao, Hamnet tells the powerful story of love and loss that inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece, Hamlet,” says the synopsis.

Who is in the Hamnet teaser trailer?
The video provides the audience with a first look at the movie’s main characters, portrayed by Academy Award nominees Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare and Jessie Buckley as Agnes Shakespeare. The cast also includes Joe Alwyn as Barthomew, Emily Watson as Mary Shakespeare, Jack Shalloo as Marcellus, and David Wilmot as John, with Jacobi Jupe as Hamnet Shakespeare.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao is directing Hamnet from a screenplay she co-wrote with O’Farrell. This serves as Zhao’s feature directorial comeback, four years after working on Marvel Studios’ Eternals movie. She is best known for her acclaimed work on the 2020 drama Nomadland, which scored multiple major awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Zhao, and Best Actress for Frances McDormand at the Oscars.
The movie is produced by Liza Marshall, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Gonda, Sam Mendes, and Steven Spielberg. In addition, Zhao is also an executive producer along with Kristie Macosko Krieger and Laurie Borg. Before its theatrical release, the movie will first have its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7.
