The Adventures of Cliff Booth: Quentin Tarantino on if Movie Will Get a Theatrical Release
Quentin Tarantino has weighed in on whether or not The Adventures of Cliff Booth will get a theatrical release.
The Adventures of Cliff Booth is the upcoming film that will see Brad Pitt reprise his role from 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The movie is written by Tarantino, while David Fincher is directing the project.
What did Quentin Tarantino say about The Adventures of Cliff Booth?
Appearing on The Church of Tarantino podcast, the Reservoir Dogs director was asked if there’s any chance The Adventures of Cliff Booth will play in theaters despite it being released through Netflix.
“Well, they might,” Tarantino answered. “It’s not their business model, so I don’t hold it against the company for not following what’s not their business model. You can [decry] that it’s not their business model, but it is just what it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if they came out with a two-week release of it, at least limited, to some degree. And then I think, at least as far as the big cities are concerned, they’ll probably have screenings because they’re probably going to want it to do good at the Oscars. So they’ll be screenings for it around town and everything.”
He recalled about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s theatrical release, “Watching it with an excited, jam-packed audience for three weekends was meaningful. And if no one cared and no one had shown up, it wouldn’t have been the same thing.
“So, this movie I’m doing with Netflix, is the biggest budget movie I’ve ever done by $100 million, all right? It’s like a $200 million movie. And the box office doesn’t matter. I mean, it doesn’t matter f— all. Not f— all, all right? They don’t care. They don’t care. It’s like gambling with the casino’s money. I mean, you know, it’s that sort of Damocles that I have existed under, that I have lived under my entire career, just doesn’t exist.”
A release date for The Adventures of Cliff Booth has not yet been announced.
