Resident Evil: First Plot Details for Weapons’ Director’s Horror Remake Revealed
The first official Resident Evil plot details are here, previewing what fans can expect from Zach Cregger’s upcoming movie based on the iconic video game franchise.
What are the Resident Evil plot details?
In a recent post on social media, insider Daniel Richtman shared the logline for Cregger’s upcoming movie. According to that, the film will follow the story of Bryan (played by Austin Abrams), an organ courier who is sent to deliver something to Racoon City General Hospital.
“En route through a snowy mountain road, he accidentally hits a strange woman with his car. She survives—but something is very wrong,” reads the rest of the logline. “As he tries to help, Bryan stumbles into a full-blown outbreak involving horrifying tentacle-based mutations and bio-engineered monstrosities.”
Besides the brief logline, not a whole lot is known about what Cregger’s Resident Evil movie will focus on, nor who will be involved in it. Cregger co-wrote the screenplay with Army of the Dead and John Wick: Chapter 4 scribe Shay Hatten. At the moment, Euphoria and Weapons star Austin Abrams is the only confirmed cast member for the project.
However, it was recently revealed that Oscar winner Mikey Madison was reportedly in negotiations for the lead role. Both Madison and Abrams aren’t strangers to the horror genre, respectively starring in 2022’s Scream and 2019’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
The legendary video game franchise has seven different film adaptations dating back to 2002, most of which have starred Milla Jovovich.
Cregger is best known for his work as one of the founding members of the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’ Know, which he founded alongside Sam Brown and the late Trevor Moore. Cregger also directed the 2009 comedy Miss March but broke out as a director following the 2022 horror film Barbarian, which became a massive success and garnered positive praise from the horror community.
