Jungle Cruise 2: Dwayne Johnson’s Disney Sequel Gets Exciting Update

Fans of Disney’s Jungle Cruise got an exciting update today as a new report shed light on the Jungle Cruise 2 movie.

What is the latest Jungle Cruise 2 movie update?

According to a new update from insider Daniel Richtman, Dwayne Johnson will be returning for the sequel, which is currently in the works at Disney. Matthew Robinson (Love and Monsters) is reportedly handling the script for the film.

Richtman didn’t have any other info on the movie, so it’s unclear whether or not Emily Blunt, who co-starred alongside Johnson, is also confirmed to return. Previous reports on the film did note that Blunt would also be reprising her role as well, however.

Originally released in 2021, Jungle Cruise is based on the legendary Disney theme park attraction of the same name. The film starred Johnson, Blunt, Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti and was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The film followed the story of the captain of a small riverboat who helps a scientist and her brother journey through the jungle to look for the Tree of life.

Jungle Cruise released simultaneously in theaters and digitally due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and received mostly mixed reviews. In total, the film earned $220.9 million globally against a reported budget of $200 million, but also reportedly made close to $100 million on Disney+’s Premier Access service.
