Weapons’ Brutal Alternate Ending Revealed for Horror Thriller

Zach Cregger, the director of the new horror movie Weapons, which has been garnering high praise from critics, almost went with an alternate ending for his latest feature. In a recent discussion, the filmmaker disclosed that he had plans to conclude Weapons in a different, arguably more ferocious manner, but ultimately decided to ditch that approach in favor of the ending in the final cut.

During his recent interview with Comic Book Resources, Cregger noted that while finalizing the story for Weapons, he had thought of an alternate ending that would’ve pitted Julia Garner’s Justine Gandy against Amy Madigan’s Gladys Lilly in a full-fledged brawl.

“Yeah, I mean, I had an idea – this is kind of spoiler territory – but that Mrs. Gandy and the kid were gonna go and they were gonna get their ideas…they were gonna use the tree,” Cregger stated while referencing the fauna Madigan’s character used to conduct her witchcraft.

He then described the alternate ending he had in mind for Weapons, noting, “And they were gonna go collect people to be their little army, and then they were gonna showdown with Gladys and her little army.” The director continued, “So we would have a kind of a gang war at the end and I really thought that’s where I was going to go.

The ending that viewers see in the theatrical cut of Weapons sees Cary Christopher’s Alex sneak into Gladys’ room and reenact the ritual he has witnessed his greataunt perform umpteen times. This ends up revoking Gladys’ spell over the children, causing them to attack and kill the evil sorcerer.

Cregger ultimately decided to let go of his alternate ending for Weapons in favor of the aforementioned plot, as he “realized like that movie would be so long and also not as cool.” It all seems to have worked out for Cregger as the film has garnered highly positive reviews since its release.
