Dave Bautista Joins Highlander Reboot Movie, Major Role Revealed
The upcoming Highlander reboot has added another high-profile star to its cast, casting a well-known actor from the MCU and world of Dune in a villainous role.
Who is Dave Bautista playing in the Highlander reboot?
According to a new report from Deadline, Dave Bautista is set to join the upcoming reboot from Chad Stahelski. He’ll play the role of the Kurgan, a character originally played by Clancy Brown in the 1986 film of the same name. In the original film, the Kurgan — who’s real name was Vitor — is an extremely powerful Immortal and the main antagonist of the film.
Bautista will star opposite Henry Cavill in the movie. Cavill is set to play the lead role of Connor MacLeod, originally played by Christopher Lambert. Alongside the pair, Russell Crowe is also set to star in the film, in an undisclosed “key role” in the movie.
Plot details for the new Highlander movie have not yet been revealed. The project was originally in development at Lionsgate but is now instead being made for Amazon MGM Studios.
Production on the film is expected to begin this coming fall. An exact release date has not yet been set, though Stahelski previously said it would likely arrive in either 2027 or 2028.
“When the mystical Russell Nash (Lambert) kills a man in a sword fight in a New York City parking lot, he leaves a sliver of an ancient weapon lodged in a car in the process,” a description of the original Highlander film reads. “After brilliant forensics specialist Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart) recovers evidence of the mysterious weapon, she and her partner, Lt. Frank Moran (Alan North), embark on an investigation Of Nash that will land them in the middle of a dangerous, centuries-old feud between powerful immortals.”
