Sicario 3 Update: Josh Brolin Reveals If Sequel With Emily Blunt Will Get Made

Josh Brolin has some exciting Sicario 3 news.

The first Sicario movie was released in United States theaters in 2015. Written by Taylor Sheridan and directed by Denis Villeneuve, the crime thriller movie stars Brolin as Matt Graver, Emily Blunt as Kate Macer, and Benicio del Toro as Alejandro Gillick. The film grossed around $85 million worldwide and earned three Oscar nominations: Best Cinematography (Roger Deakins), Best Original Score (Jóhann Jóhannsson), and Best Sound Editing (Alan Robert Murray).

Sicario was followed by a 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. Villeneuve was not involved with the project; rather, Stefano Sollima took over as director while Sheridan once again wrote the script. Del Toro and Brolin both reprised their roles, while Isabela Merced, Catherine Keener, and Matthew Modine all joined the cast.

What did Josh Brolin say about Sicario 3?

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Brolin gave an update on Sicario 3 and confirmed that the project is “very, very real.”

“I mentioned at some point — I don’t know, maybe just to be contrary — but I was like, ‘Yeah, [Siscario 3 is] never going to happen.’ Then the producers showed up,” he recalled. “…I just heard recently that it’s very, very real. So, cool.”

Brolin said he was unsure if Villeneuve would be involved in Sicario 3. It seems unlikely, given that Villeneuve is currently working on Dune 3 and then will be making the next James Bond movie for Amazon (he also has a number of other previously announced projects that have yet to be made), though there’s been no official confirmation or word on the matter from the director or anyone else involved.

No other details for Sicario 3 are available at this time. The 2015 movie is currently available to watch on Netflix, while Day of the Soldado can be rented or purchased on various digital streaming outlets.
