Josh Brolin Teases Dune: Part Three But Reveals 1 Disappointing Aspect
Josh Brolin is set to reprise his role as Gurney Halleck, the former weapons master of House Atreides and a friend to Paul Atreides, in Dune 3. Unfortunately, Brolin shared a disappointing update about his character in the third film in the trilogy.
What did Josh Brolin say about Dune: Part Three?
Brolin recently sat down for an interview with Josh Horowitz of the Happy Sad Confused Podcast. Brolin confirmed that filming has begun on Dune 3 and praised the “super good” script by Denis Villeneuve and Jon Spaihts.
Horowitz noted that in Dune Messiah, the source material for the third film, Gurney is not prominently featured in the book. Brolin laughed and agreed, saying he does not appear much in Dune 3.
“I’m in it, but I’m not there right now,” Brolin said.
Brolin shared that he keeps receiving texts from people asking why he’s not filming the movie right now. “Dude, read the script,” Brolin jokingly said, which confirms his reduced role in the movie.
Despite his lack of screen time, Brolin believes Dune 3 is a worthy conclusion, teasing that the heads of Warner Bros. are excited in a “visceral way.”
Production began in July on Dune: Part Three. The official Dune Instagram account posted a photo of sandy hills and a red sky to signal a return to Arrakis.
Dune 3 is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul Atreides. The rest of the confirmed cast includes Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, and Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides.
Villeneuve will direct Dune: Part Three, which will be his last film in the franchise. Filming is expected to last for the rest of 2025. Dune: Part Three is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026.
