Extraction 3’s Chris Hemsworth Gives Exciting Update on Sequel Status
Chris Hemsworth recently gave a positive update on how Extraction 3 is coming along and when it might be released. Netflix’s action thriller feature Extraction came out in 2020, and despite the mixed reviews, it became a big hit on the platform. Extraction 2 premiered in 2023 and garnered significantly better responses from critics. At the Netflix Tudum festival that year, the streaming giant announced that a third Extraction movie was in development.

Hemsworth expressed his eagerness to reprise the role of Tyler Rake in Extraction 3 during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. When asked if he had checked in on Tyler recently and whether the Australian black ops mercenary was getting restless, Hemsworth responded, “He’s getting restless. He is. My inner Tyler Rake is feeling a certain amount of protest and needs to be released, for sure.”
The MCU star confirmed that they were working on how to approach the third entry in the film series. “That’s something we are working on, yeah,” Hemsworth explained. “We, the creative team, are putting together some different ideas and creative ventures of where we could take the whole place and the [third] film. But the intention is to certainly make another one,” he added.
Hemsworth indicated that the project didn’t yet have a planned release date window. “I don’t know exactly when, but yeah, it’ll be coming,” he said.
As indicated above, Extraction 3 was initially announced in June 2023 at the Netflix Tudum festival. So, the movie can be expected to come out sometime in 2027 or 2028. Hemsworth and Sam Hargrave, the director of the first two movies, appeared at the festival and made the announcements, effectively confirming that they would return for the third feature.
The Extraction movies are adaptations of the graphic novel Ciudad. Joe Russo penned the screenplay for both movies. Besides Extraction 3, a TV series set in the same fictional universe is also in development at Netflix.
