Sinners: Machine Gun Kelly Reveals Reason To Deny Vampire Role Audition

Machine Gun Kelly recently shared that he walked away from a major film opportunity, Sinners, over concerns with the script. Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, the rapper and actor explained why he refused to audition for Ryan Coogler’s upcoming film Sinners, despite initial plans to play a key vampire role.

Machine Gun Kelly rejected Sinners’ audition for this reason

Machine Gun Kelly explained that he refused the role because the script included a racial slur.

He stated, “Like Sinners, I was supposed to be in that. The vampire, they had me set up to do the audition… In the audition, he had to say the “n-word and I wouldn’t do it.”

Kelly clarified that the role in question was “the second vampire,” Bert, a Ku Klux Klan member whom the character Remmick played by Jack O’Connell turned into a vampire. The part ultimately went to Peter Dreimanis. The film also stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, and Miles Caton.

“I have a lot of aspirations to be in movies, it just hasn’t panned out that way,” Kelly said during the interview. He added, “There’s been plenty of movies that come out that I was like, ah, I was supposed to be in that, or I did auditions for that.”

Co-host Darius Butler acknowledged Kelly’s stance with a fist-bump on air. The rapper also shared that he aims to appear in films while he still looks young, saying, “It’ll align. The angels will put something in the works.”

Kelly’s upcoming album Americana is scheduled to release on August 8, 2025. During the interview, he also discussed his new college football anthem “don’t wait run fast,” his experience with water fasting, and other personal projects.

Kelly did not directly name the filmmakers but referenced the film title and context. Ryan Coogler produced Sinners, which has gained attention for its bold themes and casting choices.
