The Naked Gun Loses Box Office Battle To The Bad Guys 2
In the battle of comedies, The Bad Guys 2 seems to have taken the lead over The Naked Gun, with the animated feature outperforming the Liam Neeson-led movie at the box office during its opening weekend. The sequel, which premiered three years after the release of its predecessor, has surprised everyone with its financial run so far, beating Akiva Schaffer’s latest directorial venture on both domestic as well as international fronts.
How The Bad Guys 2 wins opening box office weekend against The Naked Gun
While both The Naked Gun and The Bad Guys 2 have experienced a successful box office opening, the latter has considerably edged out its competitor, if their weekend numbers are anything to go by. According to Box Office Mojo, the Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson-led movie has recorded a worldwide collection of $28.5 million in the first three days of its theatrical run. In sharp contrast, The Bad Guys 2 has outperformed The Naked Gun in this aspect, globally securing in excess of $44.5 million in the same time span.
Notably, the animated sequel seems to have gotten the better of Paramount’s latest comedy domestically, as well as internationally. While The Bad Guys 2 opened to $22.2 million in the U.S. and $22.3 million internationally, The Naked Gun could only earn $17 million and $11.5 million in the same categories, as per Box Office Mojo.
Despite the disparity in their opening weekend box office numbers, both The Bad Guys 2 and The Naked Gun have drawn positive reviews from critics. At the time of writing, DreamWorks Animation’s heist comedy boasts an 86% critic score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, The Naked Gun currently sits on a 90% Rotten Tomatoes critic score along with a slightly less but still impressive audience score of 76%.
