Taron Egerton on Why He Can’t Be Wolverine After Hugh Jackman
Actor Taron Egerton recently explained whether he would still love to play Wolverine. Egerton had reportedly expressed his desire to play the character in 2022, but Hugh Jackman returned to the role in 2024.
Recently, Marvel head Kevin Feige stated that after Avengers: Secret Wars, a reset will take place, which will also happen with X-Men, thus leading to a recast of characters, which might lead to Jackman not returning post Secret Wars in the role.
Taron Egerton responds to Wolverine casting possibility for MCU
Taron Egerton recently talked about his numerous projects with host Josh Horowitz on his Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, when he revealed whether he would be up to play Wolverine still.
When asked about his views on playing Wolverine now with an X-Men recast in sight, Egerton said, “Frankly, even if you know, if they do have whatever it is, you know, they were to do it, you know, there there’s some big shoes to fill and I don’t know that I want that much attention on me, frankly.”
The actor further continued, “I just don’t know that that would do me any good, man. The other thing that people experience, I just don’t know that I’m built for it.”
Egerton also added that people thinking he could carry on the legacy of Hugh Jackman is “quite strange, but it’s flattering.” He added, “It’s always lovely to think that anybody would want you to play a beloved role, but I also think no one is ever going to accept anyone in that role other than Hugh Jackman. He’s completely synonymous with it.”
During an interview with Sway’s Universe in 2022, Egerton disclosed to Horowitz that he had an exchange with Feige regarding a character long way back, although it wasn’t Wolverine. At the time, the actor conveyed that “there’s no truth, no reality to” the Wolverine rumors. However, he said he would “love to be a part” of the MCU.
