
Fantastic Four Box Office Gets a Massive Drop in 2nd Weekend Earnings

The Fantastic Four: First Steps box office crosses $350 million worldwide
Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps earned $40 million in its second domestic weekend, down 66% from its $117.6 million opening. The film made $11.7 million on Friday, $15.5 million on Saturday, and $12.8 million on Sunday across 4,125 theaters. Its domestic total stands at $198.4 million after ten days. Imax contributed $5.2 million or 13% of the second-weekend total, pushing its Imax cume to $26.3 million (via Deadline).
This 66% drop aligns with recent Marvel trends. Captain America: Brave New World fell 68% in its second weekend and Thunderbolts declined 56%. In contrast, James Gunn’s Superman dropped 53% in its second frame with $58.5 million.
By its tenth day, Superman had reached $236.2 million domestically and finished its fourth weekend with $316.2 million (via Box Office Mojo). Marvel notes that First Steps is pacing 19% ahead of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which ended at $214.5 million domestically.
Globally, First Steps has grossed $368.7 million, with $198.4 million domestic and $170.3 million international. It remains the highest-grossing Fantastic Four film to date. Kevin Feige confirmed, “It literally is not connected to anything we’ve made before,” emphasizing its standalone nature. The film holds an A- CinemaScore and 86% Rotten Tomatoes score.
New competition contributed to the decline. The Bad Guys 2 opened to $22.2 million, while The Naked Gun reboot launched with $17 million. Neon’s Together brought in $10.8 million over five days.
The overall weekend box office was $126 million, down 27% from the same weekend in 2024. The domestic box office year-to-date is $5.4 billion, up 10% from 2024, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps leading Marvel’s 2025 theatrical slate.
