Peter Dinklage Reveals Why He Joined The Toxic Avenger Reboot for Lead Role

In the build-up to the theatrical release of The Toxic Avenger reboot, Peter Dinklage has explained what prompted him to take on the lead role in the upcoming black comedy. Dinklage, who portrays the titular Toxie in the superhero film, noted his motivations to join the Macon Blair-helmed remake in a recent interview while also shedding light on how relevant the movie is in the modern-day environment.

Peter Dinklage says his casting in The Toxic Avenger reboot makes ‘perfect sense’

During his recent appearance at the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con, Peter Dinklage spoke with ComicBook.com about his role in the upcoming Macon Blair movie. Dinklage said even though he never imagined himself taking on the lead role in a Toxic Avenger reboot after catching the original 1984 film series, doing so now made “perfect sense.”

“Of course, it makes perfect sense, and I was born and raised in New Jersey. I mean, look at the environment now, it’s sadly still a topical thing,” the actor shared. He then highlighted how adopting a satirical approach is the best way to talk about the environmental themes depicted in the film.

“I think the best way to approach certain serious topics is through satire and comedy, because it’s through the back door, and he nails it every time,” the 56-year-old actor said while praising Blair.

Having portrayed Dr. Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War, Dinklage now takes on yet another superhero part in the upcoming The Toxic Avenger reboot.

The Game of Thrones star plays janitor Winston Gooze, who, after gaining superhuman abilities in a freak accident, adopts the mantle of Toxie. Masquerading as a vigilante, Toxie battles against a number of threats, all the while trying to salvage his relationship with his son.

The Toxic Avengers was screened in several film festivals and will arrive in theaters on August 29, 2025.
