Ocean’s Eleven Prequel Movie Finds Acclaimed Director

The Ocean’s Eleven prequel movie that’s in development has officially found its director, according to a new report from Deadline.

Who is directing the Ocean’s Eleven prequel?

Lee Isaac Chung, the director of 2020’s Minari and 2024’s Twisters, is currently in talks to direct the Ocean’s prequel film. Outside of Minari and Twisters, Chung also directed episodes of various Star Wars projects for Disney, including an episode of The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

As of right now, pretty much nothing is known about the Ocean’s Eleven prequel. The film’s plot and cast have been kept under wraps for the time being. At one point, though, both Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling were rumored to have been involved in the project as stars, although no confirmation ever came from that. Robbie’s production banner, LuckyChap, is still attached as a producer to the project.

The Ocean’s Eleven franchise dates back to 1960, when the original film starring the Rat Pack first released. In 2001, a remake of the film starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, and more released, kickstarting a trilogy of films. The three films were all directed by Steven Soderbergh, and written by Ted Griffin, George Nolfi, Brian Koppelman, and David Levien, respectively.

In 2018, an all-female spin-off movie, Ocean’s 8, was released. That film starred Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, and Helena Bonham Carter. Recently, reports of an Ocean’s 14 being in development have also surfaced.
