Florence Pugh Passed on Key The Last of Us Role
In a surprise piece of news, a new report notes that a notable MCU star passed on playing the role of Abby in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2.
What role did Florence Pugh pass on in The Last of Us Season 2?
According to noted insider Daniel Richtman (also known as DanielRPK on social media), Thunderbolts* star Florence Pugh was in talks to play Abby in the series. While it didn’t come together, Richtman notes that he knows this “for a fact.”
Instead of Pugh, the role of Abby went to Kaitlyn Dever, who appeared as a recurring character in Season 2. Dever’s role will expand in the show’s third season, as the show explores more of Abby’s backstory and the back-and-forth between her and Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey).
Season 3 of The Last of Us will once again be based on co-creator Neil Druckmann’s acclaimed video game sequel, The Last of Us Part II. The show stars Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy Miller, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. The latest installment has also welcomed new cast members to the acclaimed horror drama, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Manzino as Jesse, Isabela Merced as Dina, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny, with guest star Catherine O’Hara.
The Last of Us Seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch now on HBO Max and are also available to purchase digitally from participating platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Fandango at Home, and more.
