
Kpop Demon Hunters Gets Ambitious Sequel Plans as Netflix Wants Franchise
Following the global success of KPop Demon Hunters, speculations about its inevitable sequel continues to make rounds online as fans are eager to see what’s next for the animated movie’s beloved characters. At the moment, the musical fantasy movie is Netflix‘s most-watched original animated movie of all time. It also currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
What do we know about Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters plans?
In a new report from TheWrap, Netflix is reportedly treating KPop Demon Hunters as its “Frozen or Disney Princesses franchise” since the animated movie was able to reach different types of audiences through its music, visuals, and engaging characters. According to the outlet’s sources, in order to fully capitalize on its popularity, the streamer isn’t only planning a KPop Demon Hunters film trilogy, but is also looking to expand the franchise by adapting the animated movie into a series, a live-action remake, and stage musical.
KPop Demon Hunters was directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans from a screenplay written by Kang, Appelhans, Danya Jimenez, and Hannah McMechan. The voice cast includes Arden Cho as Rumi, May Hong as Mira, Ji-young Yoo as Zoey, Yunjin Kim as Celine, Ahn Hyo-seop as Jinu, Joel Kim Booster as Romance Saja, Alan Lee as Mystery Saja, SungWon Cho as Abs Saja, Daniel Dae Kim as Healer Han, Ken Jeong as Bobby, and Squid Game star Lee Byung-hun as Gwi-Ma. In addition, Ejae, Andrew Choi, Audrey Nuna, Rei Ami, Lea Salonga, Kevin Woo, and Samuil Lee provided the singing voices for the respective characters of Rumi, Jinu, Mira, Rei Ami, Celine, Mystery Saja, and Romance Saja.
