A behind-the-scenes image shared on the official Red Sonja Instagram account on July 30, 2025, featured the caption: “@matildalutz and the Iconic Chainmail bikini!!! Red Sonja out Aug 13.” The bikini, widely recognized from the comics, remains the character’s main costume in the film.
In a July 2025 interview with USA Today, Lutz explained that in the film, Red Sonja’s chainmail bikini is “used as an element of power that the emperor has over her … But then she owns it.” The film adapts the Dynamite Entertainment version of the character, diverging from the earlier Marvel depiction.
According to what Lutz told Collider last year, the reboot presents “a completely different story” and moves away from the “male gaze” of the original comic interpretations.

The film carries an R rating for “strong/bloody violence” and will release theatrically in the U.S. on August 13, 2025, followed by a digital release likely on August 29.
