Masters of the Universe’s Alison Brie Debunks Huge Rumor About He-Man Story
Alison Brie, who plays Evil-Lyn in the upcoming live-action theatrical adaptation of Mattel’s Masters of the Universe, recently indicated that the rumors about the movie’s story and tone might not be accurate. Fans of the franchise seem to be under the impression that the feature will have a serious tone as it explores the fantasy and sci-fi elements of that fictional universe. However, Brie’s comment on the matter seems to imply that this might not be the case.
Masters of the Universe won’t have a serious story or tone, Alison Brie teases
Alison Brie teased the tone and story of Masters of the Universe during a new interview with Collider. When the outlet enquired whether the superhero movie would be serious or campy, Brie responded with a question of her own, “Who said it’s leaning a little more serious?”
The actress was then told about various rumors and reports on the internet about the movie’s serious approach to the IP. Brie replied, “I don’t think they know as much as they think they know. That’s all I’m gonna say.”
With the above remarks, the Community star seems to hint that the movie might be tonally campy. At the time of this article’s composition, this has not been officially confirmed. The logline reads, “Almost two decades after crashing down to Earth, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet of Eternia against the evil forces of Skeletor.”
It further states, “But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.”
Aside from Brie, the cast also includes Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam Glenn / He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Jared Leto as Keldor / Skeletor. The upcoming feature is the second live-action feature based on the IP. The previous one, also called Masters of the Universe, came out in 1987 and features Dolph Lundgren as He-Man.
The newer adaptation debuts in US theaters on June 5, 2026.
