New Predator & Alien Crossover Likely After Badlands Director’s Reply
Dan Trachtenberg, the director of the upcoming Predator: Badlands, gave a promising update on whether fans can expect more Alien franchise crossovers in the future. Notably, Trachtenberg previously helmed two movies belonging to the Predator franchise, 2022’s Prey and the 2025 Hulu animated feature Predator: Killer of Killers.
Dan Trachtenberg says Predator and Alien crossover will be ‘very cool’
Trachtenberg expressed interest in doing more Predator and Alien crossovers in the future after Badlands during an interview with ComicBook. He said, “You know, it would be very cool!” The filmmaker then proceeded to make it clear that the addition of elements from the Alien franchise in Badlands is meant to be much more than easter eggs and fun references.
“This certainly wasn’t a frivolous thing — involving Weyland-Yutani, woven into the fabric of this movie,” Trachtenberg explained, adding, “It would be awesome to be able to tell more stories that have further connections.”
The writer-director didn’t speak about the two Alien vs. Predator movies or whether Badlands would be building toward a reboot of those movies. Notably, Alien vs. Predator came out in 2004, followed by Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007. Both movies received largely negative reviews from critics but were considerable successes at the box office.
The trailers and other promotional material indicate that Predator: Badlands will feature a significant number of references to the Alien franchise. Perhaps the most prominent among them is Elle Fanning’s Thia, a synthetic or android made by Weyland-Yutani. For the uninitiated, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation is somewhat of an antagonistic company within the Alien universe and a major component in the franchise-wide narrative.
Trachtenberg’s above comment may not be definitive, but it keeps the hope alive for another confrontation between the xenomorphs and the Yautja in the future.
Predator: Badlands also stars Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek, an outcast young Predator. The movie comes out in U.S. theaters on November 7, 2025.
