Eddie Murphy Is Rebooting Beloved Comedy Movie Series

Eddie Murphy is getting ready to revive a classic detective comedy movie.

What comedy movie series is Eddie Murphy rebooting?

Speaking to Today in a recent interview, Murphy revealed that he will be playing the role of Inspector Clouseau in a new Pink Panther movie. The movie role was one of several that Murphy spoke about, including the upcoming Shrek 5 and a movie based around George Clinton.

“I’m getting ready to do a George Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic. I’m getting ready to do George Clinton,” Murphy said. “(I’ve) already started Shrek 5. And I’m going to be — I’m Inspector Clouseau in the next Pink Panther.”

Murphy was then asked whether or not he would be French in the new film, like the character traditionally is. The actor said he “has to be,” but he might also be something else, too.

“Maybe,” said Murphy. “Well, he has to be French, but he could also be Haitian. I will tell you, he’s Black. He’s Black, for sure.”

The Pink Panther franchise began back in 1963, with Peter Sellers playing the character of Jacques Clouseau in the original film. The movie franchise revolves around the Inspector, who is often tasked with trying to track down a legendary diamond called the “Pink Panther” due to a flaw in its center that resembles a pink panther.

In total, 11 films in the Pink Panther franchise have been released. The most recent came in the 2006 film directed by Shawn Levy and starring Steve Martin, and its sequel, which released in 2009.
