James Gunn Casts Doubt Over 1 Specific DCU Project Being Made
James Gunn has shared an update about the DCU, and he seems to suggest that one previously announced project won’t be happening.
Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU officially kicked off in 2024 with the animated Creature Commandos show. That was followed by Gunn’s Superman, which is now playing in United States theaters, while Peacemaker Season 2 premieres on HBO Max in less than a month. Clayface, Lanterns, and Supergirl, meanwhile, are all currently dated for 2026.
What did James Gunn say about the DCU?
Speaking to Straw Hat Goofy on TikTok, via GamesRadar+, Gunn said, “We got some really cool stuff happening. We got Supergirl coming out in a year, we got Lanterns coming out [in] probably less than a year. That’s some good stuff, that’s some really good stuff… We’re making Clayface right now, and that is, oh man, the script by Mike Flanagan [is] so, oh, so good. Straight horror. And we’re working on The Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman, The Batman 2 with Matt Reeves, we’re working on that, we’re working on Sgt. Rock.”
When asked about The Authority, however, Gunn didn’t have an answer. He then burst out laughing when asked if development on that project isn’t “going so well.”
He then continued, “But I think that’s really all the projects – that’s everything that’s important. Krypto shorts… little cartoons for kids that are really fun… I just met with Dean [Lorey, showrunner] on a Creature Commandos season 2. Real big priority for us.”
There’s been no official word about The Authority movie being canceled by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures; however, there has been little to no news about that project since it was announced. Gunn also recently said that he killed a planned DCU project because the script wasn’t working, though it also hasn’t been confirmed that he’s talking about The Authority.
